We were awarded a HU J-PEAKS grant for cetacean research

  • 2025.7.20

Our center’s Assoc. Prof. E. Podolskiy — along with Assist. Prof. M. Ogawa (ARC&NIPR) and Assoc. Prof. Y. Murai (ISV/HU) — received a grant for innovative interdisciplinary approaches to cetacean monitoring from the J-PEAKS Future-Creation Regenerative Research Support Program at Hokkaido University. Whaling still takes place near Hokkaido and Greenland, where team members have been working for years, but our monitoring capabilities and knowledge about whales remain limited. Through interdisciplinary and international activities involving remote and in situ observations, as well as collaboration with local communities, the team aims to expand existing monitoring methods.
