Mr. Yuuki Hashimoto from the Graduate School of Shinshu University has conducted field research from August 24 to September 8 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, focusing on measuring the respiration rates and current biomass of fine roots in spruce forests with different permafrost formation conditions.

Mr. Hashimoto stated “I am investigating how permafrost melting affects carbon dioxide emissions from tree roots and carbon accumulation in the underground at the forests of Fairbanks, Alaska. While digging in the soil and getting muddy, I am advancing my research by experiencing the majestic nature of Alaska.”
