At the joint open house held at Hokkaido University on June 6, 2026, many people visited the Arctic Research Center’s booth.
Fur samples from Arctic animals, a narwhal skeleton, and a model of the Arctic region were displayed at the booth.
The Arctic fox fur was especially popular with the children!
They seemed amazed because the fur color changes with the seasons by comparing the summer and winter versions.
They also seemed to enjoy touching the fur to feel the difference in texture.
The narwhal skeleton was also a huge hit. “Why does it have such a long tusk?”—their curiosity seemed endless.
The actual skull and tusk specimens are on display on the first floor of the Hokkaido University Museum, so please come see them!
A science talk by Professor Shin Sugiyama, Director of the Arctic Research Center, was also held, it was a huge success.
Thank you so much for visiting our booth despite the unfortunate weather!
