The workshop for “Career Development for Young Researchers in Arctic and Antarctic Research” has been held in “The 40th International Symposium on the Okhotsk Sea & Polar Oceans”

   On February 18th, the workshop titled “Career Development for Young Researchers in Arctic and Antarctic Research” has been held at “The 40th International Symposium on the Okhotsk Sea & Polar Oceans”.  The workshop introduced efforts for human resource development through projects such as Arctic Challenge for Sustainability III (ArCS III) and provided an opportunity for young people who may aim to conduct research in the Arctic region as well as those already involved in research to exchange opinions.

   During the workshop, Professor Shin Sugiyama, the chair, presented an overview of the collaboration between the ArCS III and Hokkaido University’s human resource development initiatives. This was followed by reports of participants from Swiss Alps Glacier Fieldwork and the Overseas Fellowaship Program. Additionally, initiatives for ArCS III OSHOROMARU Arctic Ocean Boarding Practice and activities of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, were introduced.

   Finally, facilitated by Specially Appointed Assistant Professors, Dr. Atsushi Yoshida and Dr. Monika Ogawa from the National Institute of Polar Research, there was an active exchange of ideas. Key points regarding career development in Arctic research were discussed, providing significant inspiration for young researchers aspiring to work in the Arctic field.
