Press Release Announcement: “Repeated narwhal interactions with moorings challenge safety assumptions of passive acoustic monitoring in the Arctic”

Hokkaido University has issued a press release announcing the publication of a research paper by a group including Associate Professor Evgeny A. Podolski from the Arctic Research Center of Hokkaido University, Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Monika Ogawa from the National Institute of Polar Research, Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Mayuko Otsuki and Assistant Professor Kohei Hasegawa from the Graduate School of Fisheries Science, Hokkaido University, and Professor Shin Sugiyama from the Institute of Low Temperature Science and the Arctic Research Center, Hokkaido University.

The research findings on how mooring methods for underwater recorders affect narwhal behavior are expected to contribute to the advancement of marine observation practices that consider impacts on marine mammals. For more details, please see here.
