Finland/Arctic Field Course
Overview
This field course is offered as part of the ArCS III program in collaboration with the University of Lapland, the University of Oulu, and the Arctic Space Centre of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). Conducted in northern Finland, it provides participants with an opportunity to experience the Arctic firsthand through field-based learning. The course aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of the Arctic region’s climate, environment, society, and culture through a combination of field experiences and lectures by experts, while deepening participants’ knowledge of Arctic research practices and methodologies. It is designed to provide early-career researchers in Japan with practical learning opportunities and hands-on experience that will serve as a foundation for independent Arctic research. In addition, the program promotes academic exchange and network building with both international peers and experienced researchers in the field.
