  • 2019.5.31

On May 28, 2019, an Arctic Research Center (ARC) delegation represented by Professor Yasushi Fukamachi, Professor Natsuhiko Otsuka and Associate Professor Fujio Ohnishi visited the Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NArFU) at Arhangelsk in the Russian Federation to attend a workshop to discuss research collaboration. We met about twelve scholars, each of which represented NArFU’s different departments from natural sciences to social sciences.

The workshop had a good exchange of recent activities from both sides and proposed possible research projects. The workshop also took a note of the fact that there were common international research projects which had already started and where researchers of both sides participated, and stressed importance of the MOU signed in 2018 by Dr. Sei-Ichi Saitoh, the former Director of the ARC and Dr. Elena Kudryashova, Rctor of the NArFU. The workshop concluded to further foster our bilateral collaboration through developing pioneer researches.

After the workshop, Professor Yasushi Fukamachi, Director of the ARC, and Dr. Konstantin Zaikov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of the NArFU, signed an agreement on Joint Research Laboratory. In the evening, Dr. Marina Kalinina, Rector’s Advisor on International Cooperation of the NArFU and UArctic VP Interregional, invited us a wonderful dinner at one of the oldest restaurant in the town. We express our gratitude with the kind reception of the ARC visit this time while the NArFU colleagues had a hectic schedule to host the Arctic Science Summit 2019.
