The Hokkaido University Arctic Research Center (HU ARC), the Hokkaido University Arctic Initiative for Future Earth and SDGs (HAI-FES), the Hokkaido Nutopia Data Center Study Group, and the Hokkaido Government organized a seminar on November 6, 2024, focusing on recent data center trends in Japan and northern Europe. Besides presentations from HOTnet, Hokkaido Government, the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, Japan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, VTT Technical Research Center of Finland and Sweco, this event also included a panel discussion joined by Sakura Internet, Kyocera Communications Systems, and Ishikari Renewable Energy Data Center LLC No. 1.
The seminar was followed by the Hokkaido Business EXPO 2024, which took place on November 7-8. Through collaboration with the Hokkaido Government, local businesses, and the Hokkaido University Arctic Research Center, representatives from Sweco and VTT were able to share their knowledge on the sustainable data center industry and decarbonized energy systems with the EXPO attendees. On November 9, the representatives from Sweco visited the Sakura Internet data center and explored sites for future data center projects in Ishikari.
