The 7th International Symposium on Arctic Research (ISAR-7) was held from March 6-10, 2023, at the National Institute of Polar Research and surrounding venues (Tachikawa, Tokyo) in a hybrid (face-to-face and online) format for the first time in three years since the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The conference consisted of 10 regular sessions, 19 special sessions, session presentations in which presenters were selected from sessions with the highest number of abstract submissions, poster sessions, keynote speeches, etc., and attracted 448 participants from 24 countries and regions around the world. The conference was a great success, with active presentations and discussions covering a wide range of fields from the natural sciences to the humanities and social sciences.
Below is a summary of ISAR-7 and reports on the sessions in which Hokkaido University Arctic Research Center staff served as conveners.
