Prof. Shin Sugiyama, the Director of the Arctic Research Center of Hokkaido University has been conducting field surveys in the Arctic Circle for about 10 years. He has realized the importance of listening to the voices of the indigenous people who have faced harsh nature for 365 days. Based on testimonies, the investigation revealed a mysterious mechanism of how glaciers affect the ecosystem. Furthermore, there are changes in the fish species living in the Arctic, which could potentially be linked to the health status of the residents. It has also become clear that the warming of the Arctic Circle has a significant impact on the climate in Japan.
