A workshop focusing on disaster prevention policies and collaboration between rescue experts in the Arctic and North.

The Hokkaido University Arctic Research Center (HU ARC), the Hokkaido University Arctic Initiative for Future Earth and SDGs (HAI-FES), and The Finnish Association of Fire Officers (FAFO) organized a workshop on October 22, 2024, focusing on disaster prevention policies and collaboration between rescue experts in the Arctic and North. Besides HU ARC and FAFO, this event also included presentations from Sapporo Fire Bureau and Mitsubishi UFJ Research & Consulting Co., Ltd. The workshop was followed by site visits to Sapporo Fire Academy and Sapporo City Fire and Disaster Management Bureau on October 22nd. On the following day, visits were made to the Hokkaido Government operation room and Okadama airport that serves as a base for Hokkaido Government’s rescue helicopter.
