On October 5, 2022, a special seminar was held with Dr. Go Iwahana, an overseas researcher of the ARC and a member of the International Arctic Research Center at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Dr. Iwahana was in Japan to participate in the Snow and Ice Conference and to make observations at Daisetsuzan. The title of his talk was “Permafrost field studies based in HU-ARC and IARC/UAF”. The lecture covered in detail the basics of permafrost, including typs and its distribution, its thawing and freezing under the current warm climate, its collapse, and its impact on the lives of local residents. There were 8 participants at the venue and 13 participants online.
