\nWe are grateful to announce the 2nd HAI-FES International Workshop. HAI-FES (Hokkaido University Arctic Initiative for Future Earth and SDGs) project aims at forming a network of researchers who are engaged in problem-solving interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research in the Arctic, and this workshop, bringing together those researchers and institutions in mid-latitudes especially in Asia, is to discuss issues and points to keep in mind for doing those researches in the Arctic.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\n\u201cGX and DX at North\u30fb\u5317\u65b9\u570f\u306b\u304a\u3051\u308bGX\u3068DX\u201d event will be organized on November 20-22, 2023 at Hokkaido University. HAI-FES project will organize this event together with Hokkaido University Arctic Research Center, ArCS II: International Relations program, Hokkaido University Advanced IT Prototyping Laboratory, Hokkaido Nutopia Data Center Study Group, VTT Technical Research Center of Finland, and Hokkaido Government.
\nThis international forum approaches GX and DX from the context of the North, which is often associated with features ranging from cold climate to sparse population. The 3rd HAI-FES Seminar
\u201cPractice of Transdisciplinary Research and the Role of Science in Society\u201d<\/small><\/h2>\n

\nIn the Arctic region, rapid global warming and various environmental changes are occurring. These problems faced by Arctic societies are expected to be encountered in non-Arctic regions as well. Science is expected to contribute to the realization of sustainable solutions to these issues through cross-disciplinary collaboration and by responding to newly emerging social issues and demands. HAI-FES, a project to promote the strengthening of Hokkaido University’s capabilities, will periodically hold seminars to provide knowledge and information that will lead to solutions to Arctic issues and provide opportunities for discussion. The 3rd seminar will feature lectures by Dr. Masato Taniguchi, Future Earth Japan Committee member and Vice Director of the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, Dr. Yoshihiro Iijima of Mie University, who teaches Future Earth Studies, and Dr. Hirofumi Kato of the Center for Ainu and Indigenous Studies, Hokkaido University. These three will then serve as panelists for a panel discussion on \u201cPractice of Transdisciplinary Research and the Role of Science in Society\u201c moderated by Fujio Ohnishi of the Arctic Research Center. \nThe Arctic region is experiencing rapid warming and various environmental changes associated with it. These problems faced by Arctic societies are expected to be encountered in non-Arctic regions as well. Science is expected to contribute to the realization of sustainable solutions to these problems through interdisciplinary collaboration and by responding to newly emerging social issues and demands. HAI-FES, a project to promote the strengthening of university functions, will periodically hold seminars to provide knowledge and information that will lead to solutions to Arctic issues and provide opportunities for discussion.\n<\/p>\n

\nWe are pleased to announce the 2nd seminar as follows. In the second seminar, Professor Tetsuzo Yasunari, co-chair of the Future Earth Japan Committee, will present on science and society, and Dr. Ram Avtar will present on geospatial data for the implementation of the SDGs, including an introduction of the Future Earth Global Land Programme\u2019s activities. Dr. Shiaki Kondo will talk about cultural anthropology and multi-species research as \u201cslow science\u201d with Fujio Ohnishi of the Center. The 1st HAI-FES Seminar<\/h2>\n

HAI-FES (Hokkaido University Arctic Initiative for Future Earth and SDGs) is an inter-departmental initiative of researchers in the Arctic region of Hokkaido University, with the aim of realizing sustainable use of the Arctic region in response to the rapid environmental and social changes that are affecting the entire planet. The goal of the HAI-FES seminar series is to build a center where researchers in the Arctic region of Hokkaido University can come together across departmental boundaries to conduct comprehensive, problem-solving research on various issues in the Arctic region, and to utilize the framework and results for contributing to the UN SDGs and for graduate school education.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the HAI-FES seminar series invites researchers and others who are engaged in academic research as well as utilization and dissemination activities in the Arctic and its surrounding regions as lecturers, and introduces their activities to form a network of people who are working on various issues in the Arctic and its surrounding regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
