Assistant Professor Evgeny Podolskiy won Hirata award of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice and gave a commemorative lecture on September 30th. It is an annual award for up-and-coming glaciologists and Dr. Podoloskiy is the first foreign scientist to win the award.
His specialty is seismicity in cryosphere and the award was given to his research “Earthquake-induced snow avalanches and snow avalanche disasters at Sakhalin Island”, in which he compiled the detailed history of snow avalanche disasters at Sakhalin Island.
