PICES Wooster Award

Prof. Sei-Ichi Saitoh, Director of Arctic Research Center, received Warren Wooster Award in PICES (North Pacific Marine Science Organization) 2016 25th Anniversary annual meeting.

The award is given annually to an individual who has made significant scientific contributions to North Pacific marine science, such as understanding and predicting the role of human and climate interactions on marine ecosystem production. The main criteria for selection are sustained excellence in research, teaching, administration or a combination of the three in the area of North Pacific marine science. Special consideration is given to individuals who have worked in integrating the disciplines of marine science.
This reason of receiving the award is that the following points were evaluated.

1. Having really performed contribution to the society including fisheries oceanographic information service to a fisherman as social proof of the fisheries oceanographic researches
2. Widening the sub-Arctic seas study on climate change to the Arctic sea
3. Educational contribution that a graduate students and a postdoctoral fellows to instruct win for best presentation awards of 11 in PICES annual meeting and promote participation of the PICES
4. Serving co-chair such as MONITOR Technical Committee of PICES or co-chair of ESSAS (Ecosystem Study of sub-Arctic and Arctic Seas), and having contributed to the development of these organizations
